What is the Dogwood Flute Festival?

It is a non-profit 1 day workshop and concert for all interested flute players who are at a strong intermediate or above level of playing ability. It is hosted by Grace Notes Flute Choir Inc. of Maryville, Tennessee. The first workshop was in 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Maryville. The first Dogwood Flute Festival was held in April of 2008 at the Great Hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. This year the festival will be hosted at Central United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN.

Our goal is to bring flutist together to meet one another, to enjoy playing music together, to continue our education and knowledge of the flute and music in general with professionals from our region of the country. We also want to share our unique sound with the public and feature a concert at the end of each festival that is free of charge.

A typical day at the Festival:
Registration begins at 8:30am. The flute orchestra will assemble and begin their first of 2 sightreading sessions at 9:00am. A masterclass with one of our 2 guests will follow with short breaks in between. A light lunch is served at noon. After lunch everyone will attend a 2nd masterclass then return to the main hall for a dress rehearsal for the concert. A catered dinner will follow along with viewing of displays and other tables of interest. The concert performance for the public will follow featuring the flute orchestra and special concert guests. The concert is free for the public and starts around 7:00pm. Donations will be accepted to go towards hosting the next Festival.
